Barak is Israel PM

TEL AVIV: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu conceded defeat on Tuesday in elections for the prime ministerial post to Labour Party leader Ehud Barak. After his defeat, Netanyahu also announced that he would be giving up the leadership of the Conservative Likud Party.

Bedi, Gupta shifted

CHANDIGARH: The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday transferred Chandigarh Union Territory Home Secretary Anuradha Gupta and Inspector General of Police Kiran Bedi with immediate effect. Bedi has been shifted to Delhi.

Wheat exports

NEW DELHI: Union Cabinet on Tuesday allowed exports of wheat up to one million tonnes during the current financial year. The current exports of wheat products would also continue simultaneously. The Cabinet also decided to allow export of 25,000 tonnes of sugar in value-added form, Information and Broadcasting Minister Pramod Mahajan told reporters.
