Akali leaders form action committee

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
KHARAR, May 18: Akali leaders owing allegiance to the suspended senior Akali leader Gurcharan Singh Tohra have formed a 51-member action committee under the banner of "Akal Takht and Shiromani Akali Dal bachao Sangharsh committee," to fight against the policies of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

An announcement to this effect was made by Rajvir Singh, son of Kharar Akali MLA Daljit Kaur, after presiding over a special meeting of Akali leaders at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Adarsh College for Women, Padiala, about six km from here last evening. Rajvir Singh was unanimously elected as convener of the committee.

The resolutions adopted at the meeting charged Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal with confrontation with the Akal Takht and treating the Shiromani Akali Dal as his own property. The meeting accepted Bhai Ranjit Singh as the Akal Takht Jathedar and announced its support to suspended Akali leader Gurcharan Singh Tohra.

Those who attended the meeting were SGPC member Sadhu Singh Todarmajra, Kharar Market Committee chairman Nagar Singh, Morinda Sugar Mill vice-chairman Bachittar Singh, Milkfed director Rajinder Singh, Land Mortgage Bank director Gurcharan Singh, SAD district vice-president (senior) Mann Singh Sohana, Kuldeep Singh Basian.
