MUMBAI, MAY 18: A fine half century by left-hander Sushant Marathe and his 65-run partnership for the third wicket with Nikhil Chavan, helped Ravi Shastri XI beat Sandeep Patil XI by four wickets in the Elf-Vengsarkar under-14 cricket tournament (45 overs) at the Elf Vengsarkar Academy ground, Oval, today.Shastri XI, chasing a target of 202 for a win, saw their openers Fahimuddin Patel (33) and Akshay Huddar (30) give them a good start by putting on 71 runs in 18.3 overs.
Thereafter, one-drop Marathe and Chavan brought the victory in sight. Marathe's knock of 53 had six fours, while Chavan hit three fours in his 27. Patil XI's leg-spinner Kinjal Patel was the pick of the bowlers with three for 23 in nine overs.
In the morning, Patil XI asked to bat, made 202 for seven in 45 overs. Rajeev Pawar was the main run-getter with 39, while Patel, who took three wickets, was the second highest run-getter with 33. Leg-spinner Parag Khanapurkar and off-spinner Nikhil Chavan captured two wickets each.
