IT officials bust TDS racket

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA  
NEW DELHI, MAY 19: Income tax department has unearthed a major racket in the refund of tax deduction at source (TDS) following the arrest of a person who has claimed several lakhs of rupees by filing fake returns. Delhi's chief commissioner of income tax Raj Narain told PTI that the tax department became suspicious when it found a TDS refund claim made against a non existent unit. Explaining the modus operandi, commissioner A C Chandra said Tej Narain Singh would file bogus returns in the name of fictitous names and claim refunds.
