NEW DELHI, May 19: Following revision of postal tariffs from May 26, postcards will be costlier by fifty paise and parcels and registered letters will be costlier by Rs 2. This revision is expected to yield an additional annual revenue of Rs 145 crore.The revised tariffs announced in the Budget would become operational with the President giving assent to the Finance Bill after its passage in Parliament, an official release said here on Wednesday. The revised tariffs would yield additional revenue of Rs 123 crore during the current financial year.
Postcards, both letter card and printed postcard, will cost Rs 2 instead of the existing rate of Rs 1.50, while competition postcard would cost Rs 4 instead of Rs 3.
Registration charge has been hiked to Rs 14 from the present Rs 12, while parcel charges would be Rs 12 for the first 500 gm and Rs 15 for every additional 500 gm. This is against the prevailing charge of Rs 10 for the first 500 gm and additional Rs 10 for every 500 gm.
Book packets containingperiodicals would be charged at a rate of Re 1 for first 100 gm against the current 50 paise and Rs 2 per additional 100 gm against the current 50 paise.
Value payable post (VPP) charge would be Rs 2 for value up to Rs 20, Rs 3 for value ranging between Rs 20 and Rs 50 and Rs 5 for value exceeding Rs 50, the official release said.
The existing VPP charges are Re 1 for value up to Rs 10, Rs 2 for value ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 20 and Rs 3 for value above Rs 10.
New commission rate on Indian Postal Order (IPO) would be Re 1 for postal orders up to Rs 10, Rs 2 for up to Rs 20, Rs 3 for up to Rs 30, Rs 4 for up to Rs 40 and Rs 5 for postal orders up to Rs 50. For each IPO up to Rs 100, the commission would be Rs 10, the release said.
Book pattern and sample packet would cost Rs 2 for the first 50 gms or its fractions against the prevailing rate of Re 1. For additional 50 gms or its fractions, it would be charged at a rate of Rs 3 against the existing rate of Rs 2, the release added.
