Khanna new Tariff Commission chief, Bezbaruah member secy

NEW DELHI, MAY 19: Government today appointed V K Khanna as the new chairman of the Tariff Commission, posted M K Bezbaruah, former Enforcement Director, as the Commission's member secretary and announced promotions and postings of 13 other senior bureaucrats.

Khanna, a 1963 batch officer of the Punjab cadre, was the presiding officer of School and College Tribunal in Punjab. He will get the pay of secretary.

Bezbaruah, a 1968 batch IAS officer, was moved out of the Enforcement Directorate in January this year in the wake of Centre upgrading the Enforcement Director to that of additional secretary level. At that time, he held the rank of a joint secretary.

Last year, his transfer from the post of Enforcement Director had become controversial and he was reinstated following intervention of the Supreme Court.

S B Mahapatra has been shifted as Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Commerce Ministry. Mahapatra, a 1967 batch Orissa cadre IAS officer, who was holding the post of additionalsecretary in the Rural Development Ministry, will be succeeded by Mohan Kanda, an Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS officer of 1968 batch.

While S K Mishra, an IAS officer of 1968 batch from Madhya Pradesh, has been appointed Additional Secretary in the Defence Ministry, K C Mishra (IAS Andhra Pradesh-1967) has been made the new chairman of Forward Market Commission, Mumbai, in the rank and pay of additional secretary.
