Blast accused's building demolised

United News of India
MUMBAI, May 19: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) today demolished an unauthorised two-storeyed building owned by one Salim Talwar, an accused in the serial bomb blasts case, at Masjid Bunder this afternoon.

According to sources, BMC had issued a notice to Talwar in 1995 under Section 351, in which it claimed the building built by him on a 2000 sq ft area was unauthorised and would be razed to the ground. Talwar had then secured a stay order on the demolition from the City Civil Court, and the matter had gone up to Supreme Court.

The SC then ordered demolition of the building during the same year, but the job had been pending till date. This afteroon, B-ward officer Kshirsagar with his squad and a few policemen went to the premises and vacated it of its occupants. The building sheltered a pool parlour on its ground floor and a few narcotic dens on the first and second floor. Along with compressors and other equipment, the building was then razed.
