PANCHKULA, MAY 19: As part of the campaign to remove illiteracy in Panchkula district, a committee headed by Deputy Commissioner, Saroj Siwatch has been formed.Additional Deputy Commissioner Anurag Aggarwal is the senior vice-president of the committee, and the vice-presidents are: city magistrate M. S. Yadav, Panchkula sub-divisional magistrate Rajbir Singh and Kalka sub-divisional magistrate Yudhvir Singh.
Literacy committees have also been formed at village levels by dividing the district into seven blocks which include Pinjore Part 1 (Nalagarh road), Pinjore Part 2 (Malaha road), Kalka, Raipur Rani, Barwala, Morni, and Panchkula. According to revenue records, 272 villages have been covered under the literacy campaign, and according to population records, 558 villages have been covered.
The total population of the district is 3,88,118, out of which 2,09,545 are men and 1,78,553 are women. The number of illiterate people is 32,241, which consists of 12,516 men and 19,725 women.
The steps that have been taken to make the campaign a success include training 170 teachers who are further imparting training to 2,314 volunteers to teach the illiterate. Under the scheme, 1,276 classes are being held which are being attended by 10,552 people. As many as 253 information centres are functioning as part of the campaign.
