Plea against Anuradha Gupta withdrawn

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, MAY 19: A petition seeking DIRECTIONS TO FORMER hOME sECRETARY against "interfering" in the internal administration of the Police Department was today dismissed as withdrawn by the Punjab and Haryana High Court here.

The order was passed by a division bench of the High Court, comprising Justice R. S. Mongia and Justice J. S. Narang, on the petition filed by All India Dalits and Minorities Front, with the UT Administration, the Advisor, and the then Home Secretary Anuradha Gupta as parties.

The petitioners had also sought directions to the respondents against violating the provisions of the Police Act, 1861, and "other provisions" of the Punjab Police Rules, 1934.

Claiming no role had been prescribed to the Home Secretary in "matters of police administration", their counsel had stated that the petitioners were disturbed by her direct interference.
