VADODARA, May 19: Even as 600-odd people residing around the coastal areas of Bharuch district were shifted to safer places, the Vadodara District Collectorate asked all its taluka-level officials to remain on the alert as heavy rains, accompanied by very strong winds, in the range of 120-140 kmph, are forecast for the next 48 hours.According to official information from Bharuch, preventive and educative measures were being taken in the entire district, while 600 people living in the coastal areas, including Jambusar, Hansot, Devla, Asarsa, Malpor and Navagam, had been shifted to safer areas.
District Collector B B Swain said an alert had been sounded in the context throughout the district. They were also taking other measures, he said, adding that the preparations were being supervised by him personally, along with District Development Officer N J Haider and District Superintendent of Police N S Solanki.
Meanwhile, the Vadodara Flood Control Room said steps were being taken to be on the alert at all the taluka levels.
