City wants more water from river

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, May 19: Mayor Bharati Vyas has urged the Major Irrigation and Narmada Minister Jaynarayan Vyas to allow the Vadodara Municipal Corporation to draw an additional 15 million gallons water per day (mgd) from Mahisagar river.

In a letter written recently to the Minister, the Mayor stated that the VMC required the additional supply for future needs. According to sources, in about 10 years time the city would require double the supply.

Work to get additional water from the downstream of Narmada (from Chandod) is already on. As part of the Panam Water Works Agreement, the VMC has obtained a permission to draw 25 mgd water from Mahisagar.
