NNH A, Dastur claim titles

Mumbai, May 19: Nagpada Neighbourhood House A (NNH) defeated Wellingdon YMCA A 35-31 in the boys final of the first Savio Open State-level basketball tournament, sponsored by Colgate Sensation Whitening, at the Don Bosco High School court, Matunga, today.

In the girls' summit clash, Sardar Dastur scored a comfortable 48-26 triumph over Agradneya Vyayamshala.

Results:

Boys: NNH A 35 (Shaikh Hannan 10, Shaikh Rehmatullah 9) bt Wellingdon YMCA A 31 (Siraj Ansari 22).

Half-time: 13-13.

Best player: Siraj Ansari.

Girls: Sardar Dastur 48 (Tarkeshwari N 17, Tulsi Ranganathan 10, Rucha Ballal 4) bt Agradneya Vyayamshala

26 (Devarshree P 13, Sadhana D 4).

Half-time: 26-7.

Gavaskar XI in final

Rain played spoilsport in the Elf Vengsarkar under-14 cricket match between Kapil Dev XI and Sunil Gavaskar XI at the Oval Maidan today.

After losing the toss and being put in to bat in the rain-delayed match, Kapil XI made 29 for the loss of three wickets in 8.5 overs after which the matchwas abandoned due to incessant rains.

However, Gavaskar XI entered the final on the basis of a higher run-rate.

Cafe Royal score

Cafe Royal beat BMMPKB 5-3 via the tie-breaker in the Air-India Trophy football tournament, conducted by the MDFA, at the St Xavier's ground, Parel, today.

Fareez Vasania gave Cafe Royal the lead and Chiman Waghela equalised for BMMPKB. In the tie-breaker, Ryan Serra, Savio D'Souza, Leroy Nunes and Hasan Kamal netted for the winners and Vijay Pokharkar and Vijay Sawat scored for the losers.

Mumbai on course

Favourites Mumbai beat Guwahati 54-24 to log six points in the round-robin league of the State Bank of India Inter-Circle kabaddi tournament at the Chhattrapati Shivaji Stadium, today.

Other results:

Calcutta bt Guwahati 32-12; Hyderabad bt Ahmedabad 56-10; Guwahati bt Ahmedabad 33-8; Hyderabad bt Calcutta 56-11.
