Veterans title for Jitendra

CHANDIGARH, MAY 19: Jitendra Kishore of State Bank of Patiala gave his team second title by winning the veterans singles event in the ongoing Inter-Bank table tennis tournament which is being played here at the Reserve Bank of India, Recreation Club. Former Punjab State player, Jitendra Kishore (SBP) outplayed VK Kumaria of State Bank of India 21-19, 21-18, to wear the veterans crown.

Earlier the SBP had won the team championship.

Exhibiting superb ball control and spin service, Jitendra never allowed his opponent VK Kumaria to settle down and raced to a 7-1 lead.

However, VK Kumaria made efforts and narrowed the margin (10-15). But Jitendra rallied to beat his rival 21-19, to gain the upper hand.

Jitendra also dominated the second game and was up by 10-5. He won five successive points to win the set 21-18 and wrap up the contest.

Earlier in the semifinal, Jitendra (SBP) defeated SK Mittal (SBI) 18-21, 21-15, 21-16. In the second semifinal VK Kumaria (SBI) had to rely on his reserve to beat SK Bist (RBI) 21-18, 19-21, 21-19.

Quarterfinals: J Kishore (SBP) bt TK Datta (OBC) 21-19, 21-19; SK Mittal bt SS Bedi (RBI) 21-19, 18-21, 22-20; VK Kumaria (SBI) bt RK Chibber (HFC) 21-19, 15-21, 21-16; SK Bist (RBI) bt SK Gupta (SBI) 21-18, 21-19.
