JAMNAGAR, MAY 21: Additional Sessions judge B N Karia has ordered the confiscation of more than 6,000 kg of hashish valued at Rs 60 crore in the international market, which was found abandoned and unclaimed on the Arabian sea coast in January this year.In a ruling early this week, the court also allowed Narcotics Department to destroy the substance.
In January, a patrol party of customs officials had seized 295 bags containing hashish in the shallow waters around Kalubhar island, off Salaya port. Nobody has come forward so far to claim the contraband substance.
Public prosecutor Ashok Nanda, who appeared for the Customs Department, pleaded in the court that the stuff was smuggled into the country and was the most dangerous narcotic and psychotropic drug. It could not be stored for a long time and required to be destroyed, he added.
