Delay in notification of UGC scales flayed

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, MAY 21: N. P. Manocha, Finance Secretary of the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU), has expressed his "anguish over the inordinate delay on the part of the UT administration in issuing the notification regarding UGC scales for teachers of non-government aided colleges of Chandigarh,'' a press release said here today.

Lakhjeet Singh, president of the Panjab University Students' Union (PUSU), today said that the decision of the syndicate members to allow students who fell short of lectures to take the exams, though welcome, benefitted only a small percentage. He added that of the 200 students, exams for 165 students are already over. The remaining students too, have missed one or two papers. He has demanded that exams for these students be conducted again soon, a press release issued by Mohan Singh, General Secretary PUSU said.

Regularisation of daily-wagers urged
The Panjab University Class C Staff Association has strongly criticised the PU's decision to not make appointments of permanent peons against vacant posts and instead employ only daily-wagers. A press note issued by association president Kartar Singh and General Secretary Shiva Nand stated that the wages being paid were far below the minimum wage and demanded that the daily wagers be regularised against the vacant posts.

Blood donated
As many as 205 units of blood were collected at a blood donation camp organised at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, today. It was inaugurated by the institute's director principal, Dr. V. K. Kak.
