PCMA seeks GOC-in-C's intervention

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, May 21: The Pune Camp Merchants Association has sought the intervention of Lt Gen J Padmanabhan, GOC-in-C, Southern Command into the functioning of the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB).

In a statement issued on Friday the PCMA has alleged that the PCB was insensitive to their demands.

The PCMA are up in arms over the proposed amendments to bye-law No 43 of the Cantonment Act that imposed restrictions on movement of vehicles and people on certain streets. According to the PCMA, these laws were archaic and ``undemocratic.'' ``The law was passed in 1927 when India was under British rule,'' points out Anand Kochhar, chairman of the PCMA. ``Under the Indian Constitiution such restrictions have no place and violate our fundamental right,'' he added. PCMA has charged that ``there is no provision in law to impose the pay and park scheme.'' The PCMA has taken strong objection to the PCB's style of functioning and has asked for more transperancy from the office bearers.
