PUNE, May 21: Riding on an excellent bowling performance by Indrajeet Dhanve, Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) defeated Agashe Academy by a massive margin of 50 runs in today's encounter of the Mahajan (under-19) cricket trophy organised by the Maharashtra Cricket Association.Batting first, and anchored by a near-half century by Aniket Kelkar (40), PCB put up a target of 147 runs for the opponents to match, despite the efforts of bowlers like Abhinandan Jha (3/19) and Amod Nagarkar (2/20).
In Agashe Academy's essay at the crease, Sarang Kher stroked his way to 33 runs on the scoreboard. However, in this innings, it were the bowlers who held sway, with Indrajeet returning envious figures of six wickets at the cost of only 18 runs.
In the other match of the day, Abir Sengupta excelled with a scintillating 85 runs to power Cricket Foundation to a 60 run victory over Milind Gunjal XI, despite Vinay Puntambekar's three wicket haul which came at the cost of just 41 runs and Azhar Shaikh's two for 28.
Milind Gunjal XI fell far short of the target of 210 runs, after being restricted to 150 for five at the end of the day's play. Girish Duggal was the highest scorer for Milind Gunjal XI, with 38 runs against his name.
Pune Cantonment Board (PCB): 147 for 8 in 30 overs (Aniket Kelkar 40, Ketan Atre 21, Anil Jesuja 20, Abhinand Jha 3/19, Amod Nagarkar 2/20) beat Agashe Academy: 97 all out (Sarang Kher 33, Indrajeet Dhanve 6/18, Aniket Kelkar 2/16).
Cricket Foundation: 210 for 7 in 25 overs (Abir Sengupta 85, Umesh Thorat 29, Vinay Puntambekar 3/41, Azhar Shaikh 2/28) beat Milind Gunjal XI: 150 for 5 (Girish Duggal 38, Vikram Chitnis 29 n.o., Abir Sengupta 2/25).
