Tohra demands probe into Badal's assets

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, MAY 23: Former president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Gurcharan Singh Tohra today challenged Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to institute a judicial or a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry into the movable and immovable property acquired by him since his entry into politics.

In a written statement issued here, Tohra stated such an inquiry should look into both his and Badal's acquisitions since their entry into politics. Criticising press statements issued by the Badal camp on the issue of positions, he said such an enquiry should clarify their respective positions. This probe should include benefits acquired by relatives, concessions, licences and monetary benefits acquired in Punjab as well as other states.

While Tohra had yesterday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation enquiry into SGPC funds, he went a step ahead today and included Badal in the scope of enquiry. His statement also indicated he is likely to make corruption an electionissue. Quoting from the party manifesto, Tohra said Badal had announced that every legislator would declare his assets within 90 days.
