Pawar supporters quit party posts in Ahmednagar

AHMEDNAGAR, May 23: Many supporters of Sharad Pawar have resigned from their party posts to protest against the action taken against the rebel Congress leader.

The local party leaders who have quit their posts include Rajendra Kothari, district president of Youth Congress, Nirmala Malpani, president of District Women's Congress, Babanrao Bhingardive, president of the district backward classes wing. Besides, the Congress party's all seven municipal councillors have put in their papers while extending support to Municipal Council president Lata Lodha.

A meeting of Pawar-supporters, held here on Friday, protested against Pawar's expulsion from the party. District Congress Committee's former president Dada Kalamkar presided over the meeting, attended by Shankarrao Ghule, district congress committee's vice-president Bansilal Kothari, Prof. Mukund Ghaisas, Shivaji Shelar and others.

With the resignation of the seven Congress municipal councillors from the party, the strength of the Congress in the municipal council has been reduced to nil.
