Knights ride on Christy's 'trick

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, May 26: Christy Robert's three in-a-row took Knights XI to a 4-2 win over Deccan `B' while VOBA defeated Rahul Sports Club 3-0 at the Ghorpuri Military ground today.

The Kishorilal Memorial Football tournament has seen many a faux pas made by the organisers and the referees. And on a day when India clashed with Sri Lanka in England even the players abandoned their team as Rahul played the entire match with just eight players.

But the eight-member army held the VOBA lads at bay for the first 50 minutes of play, and moreover, the latter waiting for their reserves to come to their rescue. It was substitute Joseph George, in the 50th minute, who netted for them. He was followed by Aditya Ranade and Sameer Master rounding up the tally in the 60th minute.

Micheal D'Cruz put Knights XI ahead in the third minute of play. Christy Roberts, then, hogged the limelight with the first hat-trick of the tournament (20th, 50th, 56th).

While their forwards with Reyond Pillay and Thomas Roberts were threatening for both the wings, their defence and the armature custodian James Chauhan and their most dependable stopper Aslam Tamboli gifted away two goals for the rivals.

Today's fixtures: Kirkeeans vs Cannon 2.30 p.m; Youngsters vs Chetak 3.30 p.m.
