Pak downs MiG, but airstrikes to continue
The Indian military continued its airstrikes on positions held by infiltrators in the Kargil sector yesterday, but suffered a heavy blow when it lost two aircraft and had two `missing' airmen.

Sharif makes N-sounds, Pak vows to defend position
Pakistan yesterday warned that peace in the world's newest nuclear region was at risk and Sharif's ominous message to the nation boomed in tandem with Indian Howitzers across the border: "Last year's nuclear tests has given Pakistan the confidence to counter `any enemy attack".

Pawar's Nationalist Cong Party launched
Rebel Congressmen yesterday floated their new outfit by the name of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). However, party leader Sharad Pawar once again shied from declaring his strategy on electoral arrangements with other parties.

Pak retaliation sends Sensex, rupee crashing
The escalating Indo-Pakistan border conflict hit the financial markets yesterday. The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive index (Sensex) crashed by 110 points, the rupee plunged below the Rs 43 per dollar level and lost 25 paise against the dollar in the foreign exchange market.
