Probe ordered against PSI
A departmental inquiry has been ordered against police sub-inspector Harishchandra Sawant of the Pune Darshan police chowky ``for not registering an offence when a woman was stripped on March 14.''

The preliminary inquiry was conducted by assistant police commissioner (Wanowrie), Pratap S Dighavkar and the report has been sent to higher authorities for further action. According to a senior police official, it was too early to conclude the facts of the case. ``The inquiry is still going on and proper action will be taken as deemed fit by the police commissioner,'' he said.

The stripping case, which had allegedly occured on March 15, snowballed into a controversy when the 32-year-old woman alleged that PSI Sawant had registered a non-cognisable offence. The case was registered on March 29, after a women's organisation staged a demonstration.

According to the complaint filed by the victim, the women who assaulted and stripped her suspected her of helping a couple to elope.

2 found dead
Bodies of two women were found near Harris bridge on Friday morning by some persons residing in the area. The identities of the two are yet to be ascertained. According to the Khadki police the two women were aged between 45 and 55 years. The bodies have been sent to Sassoon hospital for a post mortem.
