Missing file -- Register case, UT IGP told

CHANDIGARH, May 28: Punjab Vigilance Bureau Director A.P. Pandey has reportedly written to the UT Inspector-General of Police Asad Farooqui to register a case in connection with a missing file.

According to sources, the file relates to a first information report (FIR) registered in Kotwali police station in Faridkot against D.R. Garg, Medical Officer in Government Medical College, Faridkot, under Section 7, 13 (2) and 88 of Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act.

This follows a probe by the Vigilance Bureau which found that the file was "misappropriated" somewhere in the department of Health, Punjab.

Vigilance Bureau director Pandey's letter says that the file was sent to Principal Secretary, Health Department, for according sanction to prosecute the accused through secretary, Vigilance department, Punjab.

It added that the file was received in the office of Secretary, Health Department, Punjab but it never returned to the Vigilance department.

The Vigilance Bureau probed the matter and found that the file was misappropriated in the office of additional secretary, Health department, Punjab. It added that the police were told to register a case earlier too but it said that no cognizable offence was made out. IGP Farooqui is learnt to have ordered the registration of a case.
