Seat adjustment talks still on, says Mittal

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
ROOPNAGAR, May 28: Punjab Food and Civil Supplies Minister Madan Mohan Mittal today sought to clarify that there was no dispute between his party and the Akali Dal over seat adjustment in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to media persons at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Hazoora Singh Memorial Complex at Ghanauli village, near here, this afternoon, Mittal said the Bharatiya Janata Party has staked claim on two more seats against three in the dissolved Lok Sabha. However, he declined to identify the seats saying: ``We are still holding a dialogue on the issue.'' He said: ``In principle, we have decided to field same candidates of the dissolved Lok Sabha and the question is not of who is being fielded from where as all the seats will contribute to the SAD-BJP kitty.''

On Tohra's outburst on BJP, he said: ``It was Tohra who earlier advocated for the BJP. However, in a changed scenario he has also changed his view point.'' Replying to a question, Mittal said the Badal-Tohra feud will have no bearing on the poll prospects of the ruling alliance and the Congress shall face a humiliating defeat once again in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

On being pointed out that the alliance is severely hit by internal contradictions in most Municipal Councils across the state, Mittal said: ``Local bodies and Lok Sabha are two different institutions.'' Referring to the allegation of poor governance and red tapism by the party rank and file in Punjab, Mittal said: ``On the basis of the functioning of a single administrator, the overall working of the state government cannot be ridiculed''.
