Sonata strike the right chords to beat Bamandey

MUMBAI, MAY 28: Sonata Sports Club (Juhu) beat Bamandey Kreeda Mandal (BKM, Parel) 2-0 in the Guru Nanak Trophy football tournament, conducted by MDFA, at the St Xavier's ground, Parel, today.

BKM, a young side, played well. The player who shone for them was goalkeeper Ravi Mangore. But it was his lapse that let them down. He was out of position and Sonata forward Tarun Basak seeing this, lofted his shot home into an untenanted goal. Chandra Soni Das slotted the second goal, off a Tarun Basak cross, in the 55th minute.

SAI drub CBI

Promoted side Sports Authority of India (SAI) trounced Central Bank of India 4-0 in the Bombay Hockey Championship, conducted by BHA, at the Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate, today. Gurmeet Singh Rao (2), Prem Kumar and Rajeev Bhatkar were the goal-getters for SAI.

Liberals score

Esplanade Liberals beat Aarey by six wickets in the Santosh Kumar Ghosh under-14 cricket tournament semi-final, at Cross Maidan, today. Esplanade will meet National in the finalon May 31.

Aarey 199-8 in 45 overs (Devraj Raut 81, Ameya Powrekar 31; Sudhanshu Mishra 3-25) lost to Esplanade Liberals 200-4 in 37 overs (Sudhanshu Mishra 67, Gaurav Shukla 35). MoM: Sudhanshu Mishra.
