Uncle Sam calling

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Mayor Madhukar Pawle, and municipal commissioner B I Nagrale are likely to undertake a visit to the United States later this month. The United States embassy has extended an invitation to the municipal corporation for attending a seminar on urban waste management as well as power generation from solid waste, informed sources told this paper. Mayor has been asked to make preparations for the tour, the sources said. The US embassy is to bear the expenses of two persons, but it is likely that more than two persons would join the tour.

The administration has initiated efforts to seek permission of the government for the tour. It may be recalled that former mayor Hanumanth Bhosale and three other senior corporators had undertaken a visit to Bremen in Germany last year. The State Government had refused to bear the expenses of the tour for the elected office-bearers as well as the civic officers.
