Dust-raising winds create havoc in city

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, MAY 31: Dust-raising winds lashed the city and its vicinity this afternoon, even as strong winds and lightning was experienced last night.

Though technically not classified as a dust storm, meteorological officials say that wind speeds up to 75 km per hour were recorded today. Loose sand, papers and other light weight objects were blown all over, giving pedestrians and two-wheeler riders a hard time.

Weather experts attribute the winds to cyclonic disturbances in the atmosphere over Punjab.
