EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SAS NAGAR, MAY 31: A group of Municipal Councillors lead by Amrik Singh Mohali have written to Municipal Council president Harinder Pal Singh expressing dissatisfaction with his leadership. the letter, dated May 27, was framed as a no-confidence motion under Section 22 of the Municipal Corporation Act, 1911.

The councillors have sought a general meeting where the motion can be put to the vote. Harinder Pal Singh denies receipt of the letter. Talking to Newsline, Harinder Pal Singh described the Amrik Singh faction as "trouble-makers" and said that "in the past four-and-a-half years, they have moved four no-confidence motions but all were defeated. They just want to hinder developmental works."

The meeting of the Municipal Council called by the president today to pass the agenda for developmental works worth Rs 5.5 crore had to be adjourned for lack of quorum. According to the president's opponents: "Only three councillers turned up for the meeting, including Harinder Pal Singh himself."
