Pune fringe villages get Rs 16 crore

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, JUNE 1: Pune Municipal Commissioner Arun Bhatia yesterday submitted the redrafted proposal pertaining to the reallocation of Rs 37.92 crore to the Standing Committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

The proposal suggests that Rs 15.94 crore, which is 42 per cent of the amount recommended for reallocation, should be spent on development works in various slums. The rest of the amount should be spent on development of fringe villages merged in the PMC limits, according to the proposal.

Among the development works recommended in the proposal are a drinking water supply scheme for Pashan, shifting of the Paud Road garbage depot as well as purchase of medical supplies and garbage containers.

The proposal suggested that Rs 4.75 crore should be raised by reallocating the amount set aside for various works in last year's Budget, for which tenders have not been invited yet.

The proposal also suggested reallocation of Rs 25.30 crore provided for capital works in this year's Budget. It added that Rs1 crore could be reallocated from the Revenue Budget for the current year and Rs 6,87,75,000 could be raised by curtailing the provisions in this year's Capital Budget for grants and loans, and imposing a 7 per cent blanket cut on the expenses for all other purposes.

Plans for constructing toilets and drainage pipes in slums have been enclosed with the proposal, and maps of the planned approach roads for the proposed garbage depot at Yevlewadi submitted.

On May 10, Bhatia had submitted the proposal recommending reallocation of the budgetary provisions amounting to Rs 37.92 crore. The Standing Committee had sent the proposal for back reconsideration on May 21.
