NEW DELHI, June 1: The Indian army has eliminated an entire group of four Hizbul Mujahideen militants trying to disrupt the movement of troops towards Kargil by carrying out systematic IED attacks on convoys near Banihal, an official release said today. The group led by IED expert Paplu, was responsible for blasts on May 29 and 30 in which six persons died. The militants were killed by the troops of the 12RR in joint operations with Special Task Force (STF) in a short and swift operation at Gagar Mandu, six km from Banihal yesterday.
The rivalry between the Hizbul Jehade Islam (HUJI) and the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) in Banihal area helped in the operation, it said. The two organisations have long-standing differences and each tried to take credit for the blasts.
