Arrest warrant against 6 ad company officials

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
MUMBAI, JUNE 3: Arrest warrants have been issued against six officials of an advertising company for alleged `misappropriation' of Rs 1.60 crore collected by it as charges from a subscriber for advertisements in print media and Doordarshan (DD) on Thursday.

The warrants were issued by New Delhi's Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau against Manu S Kumar, Vijay K Gupta, Ravi Deshmukh, Sanjit Shastri, Abhi Karun and Himanshu Thakkar of the Time and Space Media Entertainment Promotion Ltd on a complaint by another company F S Advertising Ltd.Lau directed the police commissioner of New Delhi to ensure presence of the accused before her court on July seven.

The warrants were issued after police counsel submitted that station house officer (SHO), Lajpat Nagar, in South Delhi, had been advised by the concerned deputy commissioner of police (DCP) `not to make hurry in arresting people involved in commercial transaction without discussing the matter with superior officers.'

This direction of the DCP was based on aSupreme Court ruling in a similar case, the police counsel said. F S Advertising Ltd in its complaint alleged that the money paid by it as advertising charges to time and space was not deposited by the latter with Doordarshan and print media.

The time and space officials were further accused by the complainant of forging documents to show enhanced time for the display of advertisement on DD (from 300 to 580 seconds) and `fraudulently' increasing the amount for it from Rs 5.89 lakh to Rs 16.26.
