Chandigarh, June 3: The Punjab University Academic Council, in its meeting on June 4, will consider recommendations pertaining to introducing Guru Granth Sahib Studies at the M Phil level, starting five-year integrated MA courses in German, French and English and setting up a full-fledged department of Music, among other matters.

The council is meeting for the first time this year. Among other issues, the members will consider recommendations to introduce a regular MA in Tabla (music instrumental) from the coming session and to fulfill infrastructure and faculty requirements for the start of the course, sources said.

The Faculty of Languages has recommended that the integrated MA courses be started from the session 2000-01. In its meeting this year in March, the faculty recommended introduction of Hindi, Sankrit and all other languages in B.Com Part III and B.Sc as optional subjects.

A broad-based committee constituted by the V-C, which met on May 11, recommended that a course be started in Guru Granth Sahib Studies in the Department of Punjabi. It was decided that the course would consist of three papers of 100 marks each, and a dissertation of 300 marks. The council will consider the committee's recommendation.

Exam time changed
The examination for certificate course, diploma course and advanced diploma course in German/French scheduled on June 5, 7 and 9 will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. instead of 9 a.m. to 12 noon, as earlier notified.
