Bail for 70-yr-old woman accused of trespassing

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 3: A 70-year-old woman booked here on June 1 for trespassing and causing hurt to another woman, was today ordered to be released on bail by UT District and Sessions Judge B.S. Bedi.

Considering her age and after directing her not to leave the country without the permission of the court, the Judge ordered the release after she furnished a bail bond of Rs 25,000 along with a surety in the like amount.

Balwant Kaur was arrested here along with one Gurmeet Singh, on the complaint of one Parminder Singh, who alleged that he was a tenant in the lady's house and the two were harassing him to get him to vacate. The complainant had further alleged that on May 30, when he was not at home, the alleged accused came upstairs and thrashed his wife who fell unconscious and had to be taken to hospital.

On the said complaint the police arrested the accused on June 1. In her bail application, Balwant Kaur stated that the complainant was not her tenant. She had kept him as caretaker of the kothi, and when she no longer needed his services, she asked him to leave. She, however, stated that the complainant refused to leave and further threatened to implicate her in a false case .

Burail resident convicted of theft
A Burail resident, Kanhaiya Lal, was convicted here for keeping in his possession stolen property by UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) A.K. ishnoi, and was sentenced to undergo simple imprisonment for five months.

The case was that on the said date when ASI Yad Ram was patrolling Burail area, one Intezar Ali gave him an application stating that his belongings had been stolen on the intervening night of December 9 and 10, 1998, when he had gone to his neighbour's place to watch a movie on the VCR. He said when he returned at about 4 a.m. he found the lock and the alleged accused coming out of his house with various things.

Khanna resident convicted
Rajinder Singh, a resident of Khanna, district Ludhiana, was today convicted for rash and negligent driving resulting in death, and was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for one and a half years. He was further directed by UT Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate H.S. Madaan to pay a fine of Rs 500 in default of payment of which he would have undergo further RI for a period of three months. The convict was booked here on November 2, 1994, for rash driving causing death of a resident . The case of the prosecution was that on the said date the complainant, a cycle mechanic, was working near the Sector 26 petrol pump when he saw a truck parked at a short distance.

Cheque bounce case
.Summons were today issued to the accused in a cheque bounce case, involving an amount of Rs 7 lakh. Issuing summons in the name of accused Gurnam Singh, UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) Jasbir Singh summoned him in the court on August 31, to answer to the charges levelled against him.

Earlier, a complaint under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act was instituted by Bharat Aggarwal on the behalf of Sansar Urban Housing Development. In this complaint filed on July 17, 1998, it was stated that the accused had been given a loan for business purposes and that he owed about Rs 9.04 lakh to the complainant firm.

It was added that a cheque worth Rs 7 lakh, dated April 24, 1998, was issued by the complainant. The cheque was presented on May 4, 1998, through Canara Bank, Sector 8-C, but the same was returned as unpaid on grounds of "insufficient funds". It was alleged that on the request of the accused, the said cheque was again presented for collection on May 20, 1998, but it returned .After this a notice was issued to the accused demanding payment within 15 days of the receipt of the same. No reply was, however, received.The case will now come up for hearing on August 31.
