Three gangsters shot dead in Bhojpur `encounter'

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
GHAZIABAD, JUNE 3: Three gangsters were killed last night reportedly in a shootout between them and the Ghaziabad Police in Bhojpur. The police say that one of the deceased, Saleem, was the kingpin of the dreaded Saleem Jafaryab gang.

Senior Superintendent of Police Devendra Singh Chauhan told reporters that there had been two incidents in the Bhojpur area.

Three unidentified men made off with an ultrasound machine from Dr Anil's clinic. A Maruti was also stolen from the area. The police started checking vehicles near Kilhora village in Bhojpur. They tried to stop three men travelling on a scooter, but instead of stopping they reportedly shot at the policemen and fled. The police party then flashed a message on the wireless.

Policemen deputed in the nearby areas chased the two-wheeler, which led to an encounter. The three alleged gangsters died in this encounter.

The police recovered country-made pistols and cartridges from the scene. Later, two of the deceased were identified as Salim and his brother Akeel. Salim had a reward of Rs 10,000 on his head. He was wanted in more than 20 cases of murder, robbery and highway holdups.

Akeel and Salim had shot at the the Station House Officer of the Bhojpur Police Station, Randhir Singh Singh.

After receiving specific information about Salim's presence in Tyori, the SHO had raided his house. But Salim, Akeel, and another accomplice, Kamil shot at the SHO. Locals reportedly attacked the police party and helped them escape. The Delhi Police had arrested another member of the gang last month.
