Six arrested
Sardarnagar police have arrested six persons of a gang who were involved in bag-lifting. The police were checking vehicles during night patrol when they intercepted a jeep (GJ-1BP-479) and found gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 16,400 and cash of Rs 16,400, besides calculators, watches and clothes. On further investigation it was revealed that the six were involved in lifting bags from Rajkot and Una in Gujarat and other places in Maharashtra. They later admitted their involvement in various crimes. Sardarnagar police is further investigating.One held
Satellite police arrested Vipul Rajendra Suthar, a resident of Kamal Park, Navrangpura, for his alleged involvement in incidents of chain-snatching. According to the police, Nutan Dilipkumar Shah was passing through Navneet Press with two others when Vipul, on his Kawasaki (GJ-1AS-1472), tried to snatch Nutan's chain. However, on hearing Nutan shout for help, passersby caught Vipul. He was later handed over to Satellite police.
Two dead
Two accidental deaths were reported in the city on Wednesday. In the first incident, Nishaben Champaklal Jain, a resident of Balahanuman near Saibaba Temple, died following an overdose of Metacin tablets. Police said Nisha bought the tablets on Wednesday as she had fever and headache. She was admitted to the L G Hospital where she breathed her last on the same day. In another incident, Mayur Rajnikant Bhatt (17), a resident of Juna Vadaj bus stop, died after he fell from the terrace. Police said Mayur was admitted to a private hospital where he breathed his last on Thursday. Police said Mayur was in the habit of sleep-walking, as a result of which he had fallen.
Body recovered
Kagdapith police on Wednesday recovered the body of an unidentifed youth, aged around 18, from Kankaria Lake. The police have registered a case of accidental death and is further investigating.
Cheating case
A case of cheating has been registered at Navrangpura police station on Wednesday. Police said Harshad Ambalal Shah, a resident of Naresh Park, Juna Vadaj, has lodged a complaint that Amit M Soni, a resident of Rashmi Capital Market, Naranpura, deposited a Rs 4-lakh fake draft of United Bank of India, Chennai at the Merchantile Cooperative Bank, Naranpura branch. The Navrangpura police is further investigating.
