Venkatesh U-14 champion

CALCUTTA: M R Venkatesh of Tamil Nadu topped the boys' under-14 with 7.5 points in the 12th National Children's chess championship.

Former world under-10 champion P Harikrishna of Andhra Pradesh was second with seven points while Bengal's Saptarshi Roy took third spot with seven points in the nine-round championship.

In the girls under-14, Shradha Samani (7.5) of Maharashtra claimed the title while C Delphin (TN, 7 points) took second spot. The third place was taken by P Magal (Mah, 6.5).

Maharashtra's Eesha Karavade (7.5) claimed the under-16 title while R Mahima (TN, 7) was second. In the boys' under-12 section, Sunil Rangarajan (Kar, 7.5) emerged champion while R Siddharth (TN) was second.

Eves team

HYDERABAD: Three new faces have been included in the 15-member Indian women's cricket team to tour England for a month starting from June 18. Indian Railways Chandrakanta Ahir will lead the team.

Team: Chandrakanta Ahir (capt), Rupanjili Shastri, RenuMargaret, Neetu David, Hemalata Kala, Reshma Gandhi (all Railways), Kalyani Umrani Maha Purnima Rau, Anju Jain, Anjum Chopra, Depa Kulkarni (all Air-India), G S Lakshmi, Mithali Raj (Andhra), Arti Vaidya, H Umesh (Delhi).

India tour

MUMBAI: Sri Lanka will play a One-day series against India and Australia at home later this year, Lankan cricket officials said.

The matches, scheduled between August and October, will be played at Colombo, Galle and Kandy.

Itinerary: Three-nation One-day series: Aug 22: Australia vs Sri Lanka at Galle; Aug 23: Australia vs India at Galle; Aug 25: Sri Lanka vs India at Colombo; Aug 26: Sri Lanka vs Australia at Colombo; Aug 28: India vs Australia at Colombo; Aug 29: India vs Sri Lanka at Colombo; Aug 31: final at Colombo. Test series: Sept 9-13: First Test at Kandy; Sept 22-26: Second Test at Galle; Sept 29-Oct 3: Third Test at Colombo.
