2 more in-laws held for Panvel murder

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, JUNE 4: Two of the prime accused have been arrested for the savage Panvel murders in which an entire family was wiped out on May 30. Bhagwan Singh Ram Singh and Jagpal Singh, relatives of the lone survivor of the tragedy Rajvinder Kaur, were nabbed by Panvel police on Wednesday evening.

The duo have confessed to their involvement. While Bhagwan Singh is Rajvinder's maternal uncle, Jagpal Singh is her maternal aunt's husband. On May 30, Rajvinder's immediate family had hacked to death her husband entire family as they had opposed her marriage to Ravindra Singh Matharu in July 1997. Buckling under threats from Rajvinder's family, the couple separated, but reunited on April 12 this year. After this, threats from Rajvinder's family resumed. On Sunday night, Rajvinder's mother and aunt and five men including the two relatives arrested on Wednesday, bludgeoned Ravindra, his brother and parents to death at the Matharu residence.

ACP (Panvel division), Sahebrao Patil said Bhagwan had fired two roundson Harinder Singh, Ravindra's brother, while Jagpal had killed Ravindra. The duo fled the city though police nabbed them when they returned. On Wednesday, police were tipped off that Bhagwan Singh and Jagpal Singh were to visit their residences at Kalamboli. They were nabbed at around 7 pm. Police have also seized a countrymade pistol and live cartridges from them. Three of the accused in the case are still absconding.

Although police are unsure of the identity of the absconders, they have ruled out the possibility of them being hired killers. When the Matharu family was being murdered, Rajvinder was also injured. She has implicated her parents and uncles in the killing.
