Clean Aksa beach campaign

The Rotaract Club of Dahisar Coast is organising a `Clean Aksa Beach' campaign on June 6 at Aksa beach, Malad. The campaign aims at transforming Aksa Beach into Mumbai's first non-garbage-non-plastic beach.

A photo-exhibition on the effects of pollution on marine life will be displayed on the day from 10 am opposite the Resort at the beach. The photo exhibition depicts the effects of pollution on marine life. Rotractors of Dahisar Coast, The Resort executives and sailors from INS Hamla will clean up the Aksa beach. The campaign will be inaugurated by Mayor Hareshwar Patil at 10 am.

Holkar award for social worker

Dr Shantabai Dhanaji Dani, veteran social worker from Nashik, has been selected for the prestigious Punyshlok Ahilyabai Holkar award for 1997-98 by the state government.

Chief Minister Narayan Rane will present the award to Dr Dani on June 12 at Chandwad in Nashik district. The state government also declared district wise award to 27 women fromdifferent districts of the state. Besides, regional level awards were announced to six social organisations.

BNHS exhibition on environment

The Bombay Natural History Society will hold exhibitions on state of Mumbai's environment and the role of citizens, to commemorate the World Environment Day, on Saturday. The exhibitions at Churchgate and Chattrapati Shivaji terminus is being organised in association with the State Bank of India. The exhibition will highlight issues like air pollution, water conservation, garbage management and encroachment at Borivli park.

Solar eclipse on August 11

The August 11 solar eclipse will be visible in many parts of India. According to Government of India's Meteorological Department in south Mumbai, the total solar eclipse will occur in the late afternoon. The eclipse as a whole will begin at 1.56 pm Indian Standard Time and end at 7.10 pm.

CR record in freight carriage

Central Railway has touched a new high in freight carriage with the loadingof 5540 wagons this April. This is the best performance by CR beating the record of 4,991 wagons loaded last year. CR's originating earnings have risen from Rs 267 crore to Rs 294 crore during the corresponding periods.
