City chapter of IGS to be formed today

CHANDIGARH, June 4: The Chandigarh Chapter of the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) is scheduled to be formed tomorrow at the Technical Teachers' Training Institute (TTTI), Sector 26.

The geographical area of the local chapter would be the UT and states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, stated a press release issued by Dr S. Krishnamurthy, Principal, TTTI, who has been elected the first chairperson of the chapter.

Dr Krishnamurthy stated that the IGS is the apex body on Soil Mechanics in the country. The chapter will be inaugurated by Prof N. Som, President of the IGS, followed by a lecture on "The Importance of Sub-Soil Exploration" by Prof A. Sridharan of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and a panel discussion on soil sampling.
