Punjab University reader appointed to UNIDO

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE  
CHANDIGARH, June 4: For the first time ever, a reader in the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Punjab University, has been appointed Scientific Adviser to the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).

Dr Karan Vasisht, reader in Pharmacognosy, shall be working at the International Centre for Science and High Technology (ICS) on the sub-programme "Industrial Utilisation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants" a PU press release stated.

The UNIDO has taken the lead in helping developing countries in utilising their rich biodiversity in medicinal plants for economic growth, it was added. Dr Vasisht will be involved in developing project proposals to prepare standard protocols to test the efficacy of herbal drugs, internationally acceptable clinical trial methodologies, uniform guidelines to register herbal products, developing medicinal plants, and standardising herbal drugs.
