D.P. Singh, SP, CBI, posted at Delhi, today deposed before the court that in the month of September 1995 he had been assigned the job of searching the house of accused Balwant Singh by the Chief Investigating Officer. He stated that he contacted Inspector, CBI, at Chandigarh, and they went to Patiala SP's office and took some assistance. He was accompanied, among others, by DSP and Inspector, Tripdi to Balwant's house.

On reaching the house, an Inspector was sent to call the owner of the house, Jasbir Singh, (Balwant was Jasbir Singh's tenant). The witness added that the lock was broken and search conducted. Among articles recovered from his possession were books, newspapers, cassettes, kara and trishul. He added that some of the articles were sealed and signatures of the witnesses taken, and statements of three prosecution witnesses recorded.

Police custody
A city resident was today sent to police remand for one day in a case of forgery. Taking up the prosecution plea for remanding the accused Amar Nath to police custody for three days, UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) A.K. Bishnoi allowed a remand of one day, and asked that he be produced in court tomorrow.

Acquitted
A Himachal Pradesh resident, earlier booked for rash and negligent driving causing grievous injury to a person and simple injury to another, was acquitted here after both the complainant and the injured in the case failed to identify the accused.

Surinder Singh was booked here on July 31, 1997. The case had been registered on the complaint of one Narinder Kumar, who stated that on the intervening night of July 30 and 31, 1997, near the light point of Sector 29-D, the alleged accused was driving a truck in a negligent manner, and caused simple injury to one Prem Dass and grievous injury to one Brahmi Devi.
