Kharar police arrest seven men for assault

KHARAR, June 4: The Kharar Police have arrested seven persons for allegedly assaulting and inflicting injuries to a resident of nearby Rangian village.

According to police sources, the arrested persons include Kuldeep Singh, Satinder Singh, Nirmal Singh, Jagjit Singh, Pawan Kumar and Hardit Singh, all residents of Rangian village. They have been booked under Sections 447/324/323/148/149 of the Indian Penal Code on the complaint of Jaspal Singh, the victim. The victim had complained to the police that the accused had made a vicious attack on him and inflicted injuries on different parts of his body. It is learnt that some land dispute was the reason behind the incident.

Press room opened Roopnagar Deputy Commissioner Kulbir Singh Sidhu inaugurated the newly set up press room of the Kharar Journalists' Association at the Old Municipal Council office building here on Thursday. The Deputy Commissioner announced a grant of Rs 50,000 for providing furniture and other infrastructure at the newly set up press room.

Ex-servicemen's pension demand
The Roopnagar District Ex-Servicemen cell of the Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee (PPCC) has urged the Union Government to immediately implement One rank one pension scheme in the country.

The cell lauded the courage shown by the Army in fighting insurgency in Kargil and Drass sectors of Jammu and Kashmir and criticised the action of Pakistani troops. Tributes were paid to the brave men of the Army and Air Force who lay down their lives fighting insurgents in Jammu and Kashmir. It was also decided to seek service for all ex-servicemen after their retirement from the Indian Army. They said the ex-servicemen should be absorbed in the civil service till they attain the age of 58 years.
