Chemical shops in for a check

PUNE, June 4: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to inspect 400 shops which store inflammable chemicals and conduct a check at six industries dealing with chemicals.

The move follows the ghastly fire that took 39 lives at Lal Kuan in Old Delhi, Additional Municipal Commissioner Deepak Kapoor said. He pointed out that city's congested areas were another carbon copy of the Lal Kuan.

A meeting of fire officers was called by Kapoor where it was decided to inspect industries like Sudarshan Chemicals, Sahyadri Chemicals, Nav Maharashtra Chakan Oil Mill, Industrial Oxygen Limited, Bharat Forge at Mundhwa and Kamdhenu Pesticide at Hadapsar.
