Chetan Baboor top-ranked player

MUMBAI, JUNE 2: Chetan Baboor leads the national table tennis rankings for the year 1998-99 followed by S Raman, according to the Table Tennis Federation of India. Baboor was ranked 72 in the world following his success over the world No 1 in March. He also won two National-level titles in Mumbai and Gandhidham that month.

Poulomi Ghatak leads the girls' rankings but is second in the women's, following N R Indu. Subhajit Saha (Sr) leads the boys.

Maharashtra is represented by Mallikha Parikh at No 5 in the girls' rankings while her standing in the women's is 15th. Mamta Prabhu (Mah) is number nine while Eric Fernandes (Mah) is at No 14 in the boys' section.

Senior professionals S Sriram and S Ramaswamy, after more than 20 years in business, still manage to find a place among the country's best. Sriram (PSCB) is at No 15 while Ramaswamy is 22nd.

Both internationals, Sriram is a former National champion while Ramaswamy has been in five Nationals-winning Maharashtra teams and has been ranked in the top10 for 15 years.

Boys: 1. Subhajit Saha Sr (Bng), 2. Ranbir Das (Bng), 3. Subham Choudhary (Bng), 4. Sukanta Das (Bng), 5. Prithviraj Bose (Bng). Girls: 1. Poulomi Ghatak (Bng), 2. Mouma Das (Bng), 3. Sushmita Roy (Bng), 4. Vishakha Vijay (PSCBA), 5. Mallikha Parikh (Mah).
