Northen Railway beat FCI, top group

NEW DELHI, June 4: Last year's runners-up Northern Railway scored a 3-0 convincing win over Food Corporation of India (Head Quarters) in the group-II match and entered the super league stage of the DSA-OBC Institutional League championship here today.

Northern Railway collected 13 points from five matches to top the group while FCI collected seven points from five matches.

Railway's mid-fielder Harish Bisht put his side 1-0 ahead in the seventh minute of the game while defender Lalit Singh made it 2-0 in the ninth minute for a commanding lead soon enough. After the two goals, the team did not try hard enough to force the pace while FCI failed to make any forays even as they indulged in some wild shootings. On changing ends, outside left Bhupender Sharma completed the tally to 3-0.

In another encounter in the same group, Indian Airlines tasted its first win when they outplayed Delhi Trasnport Corporation 3-0 to earn full three points.

Scorers for the winners were Kiran, Neeraj (2) who struck goals in the 20th, 40th and 58th minute respectively.

In a group-I match, Delhi Administration, despite their 2-0 victory over Engineers India Ltd., failed to qualify for super league due to inferior goal average in comparison to Zakir Husain College. Both Delhi Administration and Zakir Husain College have collected nine points from five matches. Scorers for Delhi Administration were Ajay Rana and Rakesh.

Delhi Development Authority once again failed to turn up for their match against Delhi Audit. Delhi Audit qualified for super league by collecting 13 points from five matches while DDA collected only one point from five matches.

The groupings of the super league teams which starts from tomorrow are:
Group-A: FCI (North Zone), Punjab National Bank, ESIC and Oriental Bank.
Group-B: Delhi Audit, Northern Railway, C. Secretariat and Zakir Husain College.
