Raju, Ganguly bow out

NEW DELHI, June 4: On a day of upsets, Chandigarh boys Ardaman Sidhu and Gurmeet Singh knocked out top seeds Rohit Raju and Wrik Ganguly, respectively, to set up title clash in the boys under-14 category of the North Zone final leg of Adidas Junior Tennis Circuit, being held in Amritsar. In the boys under-16 category, fifth seed Dhrub Kumar of West Bengal upset fourth seed Vivek Bhakuni of Delhi. Dhrub, who won 6-3, 7-5, will meet top seed Amanjot Singh of Chandigarh in the final.

Boys under-16 (semi-finals): Amanjot Singh (Chandigarh) (1) bt Chatwinder Singh (Chd) (3) 3-6, 6-1, 6-3; Dhrub Kumar (W.Bengal) (5) bt Vivek Bhakuni (Delhi) (4) 6-3, 7-5.
Boys Under 14 (SF): Ardaman Sidhu (Chandigarh) (7) bt D.Rohit Raju (Delhi)(1) 6-1, 4-6, 7-6(7-4); Gurmeet Singh (Chandigarh) (8) bt Wrik Ganguly (Delhi)(2) 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4).
Girls Under 14 (SF): M.Kamini (TN) bt Icri Rai (Karnataka) 6-1, 4-6, 6-2; Sandra Sasidharan (Kerela) bt Saranya Pattabi (TN) 6-3, 7-5.

Nischal stars
Nischal Gaur's all-round display (51 not out and 3 for 8) helped RR Gymkhana triumph over Ashoka CC by eight wickets in an inaugural match of the DDCA hot weather tournament at Kotla. In another match, JN Golden defeated Three Star by four wickets at Palam.

Brief Scores: Ashoka: 86 (Himanshu Sharma 25, Nischal Gaur 3 for 8, Chetan Nanda 2 for 15) lost to RR Gymkhana: 87 for 2 (Nischal Gaur 51 not out, Sant Ram 2 for 20). Three Star: 226 for 7 (Kapil Mehra 80, Javed 73, Atul Bhasin 24, Sanjay Verma 2 for 38) lost to JN Golden: 228 for 6 (Yoginder Khari 64 not out, Md. Atiq 43, Manvinder Singh 49 not out, Mohinder Rathor 24, Aqeel Ahmed 3 for 46).
