Information and Broadcasting Minister Pramod Mahajan had recently urged all operators to switch off PTV telecasts, which, he said, would be banned under the Prasar Bharati Act. Meanwhile, taking a cue from the Haryana government, the Chandigarh administration has imposed an indefinite ban on transmission of PTV programmes through the existing cable network in the Union territory. The ban has been imposed under Section 19 of the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act, 1995. Anyone violating the ban and found receiving signal would face stringent police action, the release said.
