Zee switches off Pak TV telecasts

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, JUNE 5: The Zee TV-owned Siticable, which is linked to thousands of cable operators all over the country, has decided to switch off telecasts of Pakistan Television from its network.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Pramod Mahajan had recently urged all operators to switch off PTV telecasts, which, he said, would be banned under the Prasar Bharati Act. Siticable general manager K C Arora expressed confidence that India will tide over the crisis in Jammu & Kashmir and soon push back the Pakistani intruders from Indian soil.

Meanwhile, taking a cue from the Haryana government, the Chandigarh administration has imposed an indefinite ban on transmission of PTV programmes through the existing cable network in the Union territory. The ban has been imposed under Section 19 of the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act, 1995. Anyone violating the ban and found receiving signal would face stringent police action, the release said.
