Parents form body against domicile quota

SAS NAGAR, JUNE 6: The parents of the students affected by the Punjab government's decision to give 85 per cent reservation to students who have studied in the state and the remaining 15 per cent to others, including Chandigarh, today formed the "Punjab Parents Greviances Committee CET-99" to oppose the decision.

The parents who attended the meeting came from the township as well as from Kharar, Morinda, Dera Bassi, Lalru, Kurali, Banur and Rajpura.

Bhajan Singh Bagri, convenor of the committee, wanted to know what was the children's fault if they had studied in Chandigarh as it is the capital of Punjab. He said Chandigarh has better facilities for education and children from all over the state go there to study.

Bajrang Dal burns Sharif's effigy

  • Activists of the Bajrang Dal, Colony No. 4, Chandigarh, today burnt an effigy of Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan. They blamed him for the tension across the Indo-Pak border in Kargil.

    The procession started from Colony No. 4 and terminated near the traffic lights of Sector 29 and 30 where the activists burnt the effigy and shouted slogans against Pakistan.
