NEW DELHI, June 6: Mumbai is likely to contend with Kuala Lumpur for the 2006 Asian Games. Addressing to newspersons here yesterday, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi said the executive committee of the IOA has unanimously decided to make a bid for the 2006 Asiad with Mumbai as the hub city.According to Kalmadi the executive committee also discussed about the SAF Games to be held at Kathmandu from September 25 to October 4, 1999 and Afro-Asian Games 2001 to be held at New Delhi.
The IOA president stated that in view of many applicants for future National Games, a committee under the chairmanship of KPS Gill, MC Chauhan and Nanawati would introspect the claims of various states for the Games in 2002 and 2004.
Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal are in the run for allotment of the 2002 and 2004 games.
