Chief Minister kicks off relocation of factories

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, JUNE 8: Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit today launched the relocation of industries with the draw of more than 300 flatted factories at Jhilmil Colony, Tahirpur. These factories have been built over plots of 25 and 50 sqm.

Following a Supreme Court order on the issue, the Delhi government had announced its plan to relocate the industries to which around 52,000 factory owners applied for alternate sites. Of these, around 1,100 applied for flatted factories.

The cost of these flatted factories (25 and 50 sqm plots) has been fixed at Rs 2.40 lakh and Rs 5.50 lakh respectively. The government has invited more applications for factory plots smaller than 100 sqm.

Allotees are free to make a full lumpsum payment and can also avail the facility of hire and purchase. The Chief Minister expressed hope that these factories will become a model and encourage other factories owners to go for these sorts of factories. She further said these units had been provided with all necessary amenities.

The Chief Minister said her government was keen to develop more flatted factories with more covered area, keeping in light the directives of the Supreme Court. Factories set up with the requisite environmental standards will provide conducive atmosphere to clean and small units, Dikshit said.

She also announced that the government had acquired 800 acres of land at Bawana to accommodate applicants under the relocation scheme. She promised a quick completion of the Bawana Industrial complex.

Industries Minister Narender Nath also appealed to the allottees to immediately shift their base to the new units and not make use of their old factories for industrial purposes. The minister assured them of all cooperation from the Industries Department. The minister further said that this was the beginning of the allotment of flatted factories and there will be more rounds of allotment in due course.
